Interactive Guide to Breast Self-Examination at the Smart Mirror
Only 10 — 15 % of women regularly examine their breasts, even though breast self-examination is an important part of early breast cancer detection. This surprisingly low number was the starting point for my project. Together with Jasmin Hurling and three computer science students from FH Münster, I developed a gesture-controlled guide on the Smart Mirror. This interactive mirror is designed for use in gynecological practices to reach as many women as possible in a low threshold, sensitive, and intuitive way. The goal is to strengthen body awareness and establish breast health as a natural part of self-care. The perspective that inspired me: early detection doesn’t start in the medical space — it starts with us, in everyday life. Mamira aims to lower barriers and encourage more women to perform regular self-examinations.
